First Bear Moon Gathering
Known to the Ho-Chunk as the First Bear Moon, the month of January is a sacred time when mother bears give birth to their cubs while in hibernation. It marks a season of reflection, storytelling, and connection.
Heritage Pathways Tours is offering an exclusive invitation to the First Bear Moon Gathering, an intimate, all-inclusive weekend experience designed for those seeking deeper cultural connection. Space is limited, and advance reservations are required.

Learn about Ho-Chunk history and culture through “Thunder in the Dells” documentary co-produced and starring Lance Tallmadge.
Participate in traditional Indigenous games presented by Bill Quackenbush, Ho-Chunk Nation Tribal Historic Preservation Officer.
Snowshoeing excursion led by Sue Johanson Myoleth, State Park Naturalist at Tee Wakacak (Sacred Lake, aka Devil’s Lake).
Presentation and exploration of “Effigy Earth Works” by Rob Nurre, local historian.
Experience includes meals with authentic traditional foods curated by Anne Thundercloud of Wild Bearies.
